With Eagles veteran out, this player’s sideline speech sparked defense in win over Ravens

BALTIMORE – In the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Stadium, the Eagles defense found themselves on the sideline down 9-0, having watched the Ravens cap off an eight-play, 82-yard drive that ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson to tight end Mark Andrews. With the Ravens having the momentum and looking like the prolific offense that was averaging 426.7 yards heading into the game, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson gathered the unit, and began passionately talking to them, with every player looking into the huddle that formed around him.
“I didn’t say anything too deep,” Gardner-Jonson said. “I just said we had to calm it down and understand that we have four quarters and that we have to finish the game until the clock hits zero.”
